papilloma virus (HPV) is one of the most common causes of
STDs in the world.
- The
American Social Health Association calculated that about
5.5 million new cases of HPV infections occur each year
in the U.S.

40 million Americans are infected with genital warts.

are more than 100 different types of HPV viruses. Of these,
30 different types of HPV are spread through sexual contact.

may lead to cervical cancer (at the opening of the womb).

half of the women infected with HPV show no symptoms.
