Spreading Gonorrhea

How is Gonorrhea Spread

Gonorrhea is spread by sexual contact (vaginal, oral, anal). Having unprotected sexual intercourse, or any type of sexual contact might place a person at-risk of developing gonorrhea.

The best way to prevent the spread of gonorrhea or any other sexually transmitted disease (STD) is through abstinence. So, avoiding having sex altogether might be your best bet against an STD.

If you do decide to be sexually active, wait until you are in a mutually monogamous relationship. That is, where you and your partner are only having sex with each other.

Do use a latex condom or any other type of latex barrier when involved in any type of sexual contact.

Pregnant women can also spread gonorrhea to their babies during birth. Babies can get severe eye infections. So doctors might use eye-drop antibiotics in most cases to treat or prevent eye infection among newborn babies.
