Chlamydia Statistics

 

  • 1.1 million new cases of chlamydia were reported last year, this is believed to be less than one-quarter of all new cases.
  • Up to 40% of women with untreated chlamydia develop pelvic inflammatory disease (PID).
  • One in five women with untreated chlamydia loses the ability to have children.
  • 80% of women with chlamydia have no symptoms.
  • In 2008, 1,210,523 chlamydial infections were reported to CDC from 50 states and the District of Columbia, an increase of 9.2% since 2007.
  • From 1989 through 2008, the rate of reported chlamydial infection increased from 102.5 to 401.3 cases per 100,000.
